Adult Education

Master Bibliography

The following represents books available to students enrolled in the Elmira College Masters Degree program of Adult Education and the Training of Trainers program at the Liverpool, New York, BOCES (Onondaga-Madison Counties). They are classified in four ways:

1. Arrangements have been made with the Liverpool Public Library to place material on reserve as needed by faculty and for students to use the library as a distribution center for various books related to adult education or training of trainers. If the Liverpool Public Library does not have the desired book at its location, the student obtains a library card (if they don't already have one for Onondaga County), a call is placed through the Onondaga County Public Library system, and the book is delivered to the Liverpool location typically within a one-two week time period. It should be noted that the library also contains several readers or books related to literacy, adults using the library, and reading and writing with adults that were not included in this bibliography. Any of the resources below that have the symbol (LL) after it fall into this category.

2. The Syracuse University Bird Library has loaned several books from its vast collection in adult education (they have the largest English-language adult education collection in the world) to the Elmira College program housed at the Liverpool BOCES. These books are kept in a locked cabinet in the classroom used by the program. Each faculty member has a key and students may borrow desired books on a signout procedure established for the program. Any of the resources below that have the symbol (SU) after it fall into this category.

3. Roger Hiemstra, coordinator for the Liverpool-based program, has been a professor of adult education for 29 years. During that time he has amassed a large personal collection of books related to the broad field of adult education. He has loaned several from his personal collection for student use and they are housed in the same cabinet. Any of the resources below that have the symbol (RH) after it fall into this category.

4. As noted above, Bird Library has a very large collection of adult education materials. An arrangement has been made by the Elmira College Library officials with Bird Library officials to permit Elmira College students to borrow books they find located in the library on the Syracuse University campus. Although no attempt was made to list all adult education and related books located at Bird Library in this master bibliography, all the books designated in the above three categories were compared with the library's computerized card catalog. Any of the resources below that have the symbol (BL) after it fall into this category.

5. The Elmira College Gannett-Tripp Library has a substantial adult education collection. Although no attempt was made to list all adult education and related books located at Gannett-Tripp Library in this master bibliography, all the books designated in the above four categories were compared with the library's computerized card catalog. Any of the resources below that have the symbol (EC) after it fall into this category.
